Muhammed Bashir Mu’azu
Muhammed Bashir Mu’azu is a Professor of Computational Intelligence in the Department of Computer Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria. He holds a B.Eng, M.Sc, and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, all earned at ABU Zaria, and brings over 30 years of distinguished experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership.
He currently serves as Director of the ABU Distance Learning Centre and Director of the IIOE Nigeria National Centre, operating under the UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation (UNESCO-ICHEI). In these roles, he has led award-winning digital transformation initiatives across African higher education institutions, earning the IIOE Higher Education Digitalization Pioneer Case Award in 2023 (China) and 2025 (Singapore). He also heads the Huawei Advanced ICT Support Centre hosted at ABU.
His research interests span Artificial Intelligence, Computational Intelligence, Control Systems and Digital Learning Systems. He has supervised over 33 Ph.D and 70 M.Sc graduates. He has previously served as Head of Department of Electrical Engineering and pioneer Head of Computer Engineering and as well as Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Inter-Agency Committee on Telecommunications Research Proposals from Academia and as a member of the Presidential Committee on the Nigeria National Broadband Plan (2020-25). He is a recipient of the ABU Overall Outstanding Performance Achiever Award (2024) as well as several other awards both nationally and internationally.
